Grand Knight’s Message: The following has been excerpted from a Sept. 23rd directive to GK’s   from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson regarding the nation’s election Nov. 4.   Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,  published late last year, the U.S. Conferences of Catholic Bishops declared, “In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation. This obligation is rooted in our baptismal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to bear witness in all we do.”

Should anyone need a ride to the polls, call any officer listed in this newsletter and arrangements will be made to get you there.

Super Olympics Collection This is an annual effort, with the Super Olympians participating in the collection at the stores. This year we will collect first at the churches the weekend of  Nov. 22&23, and the next weekend (following thanksgiving)  at the stores- Fri. evening, Nov. 28 , Sat. 29 and Sun. 30. Our Spring collection (the ARC) was very successful because we had good participation.  Let’s try to do as well for this collection.

Remember Sept. 11.   Several Knights attended  7AM Mass on Sept. 11 to commemorate the victims of the attack on that fateful day. This is a date no American should ever forget!

Fraternal Awards   Knight of the Month was awarded to Bro. James Transue and Family of the Month was awarded to Bro. Mark Sewell . Congratulations, Knights, on a job well done!

FOOTBALL EXTRAVAGANZA Our annual football extravaganza is now underway. This is a really important fundraiser for all of our Council activities including, most importantly, charity. Here is how it works – buy a ticket for only $10 and you are entered to win every week for ten weeks, so your cost is actually only one dollar a week. There will be ten winners every week based upon highest and lowest three team total scores. THIS IS FUN. DON’T BE LEFT OUT. BUY SEVERAL TICKETS AND UP YOUR ODDS!

Please return any sold tickets by Oct. 15.

Roundtable Our Council has re-established the Roundtable, which “main purpose is to help the parish priest, however, necessary.”  Our first project will be a coffee-doughnut new parishioner’s welcoming at St. Anne’s Sunday, Nov. 2nd. Another project is a food pantry set-up at OLPH. This is a start and there will be more to come. If you want to become more involved in your parish as a Knight, contact Bro. Mark Sewell.

Families In Need Council 313 continues to give strong support to our Families In Need  program. Members are to make requests directly to the Families In Need committee members (Steve Gorbos, Ed Ortelli, Philip Comito and/or Jim Transue ).  We want to be able to help individuals and families that need help without excessive prerequisites.  We limit donations to a maximum of $250.00 per request. During Sept. Bro. Len. Verrastro brought one such case to the council’s attention and a check was sent out, accordingly.
