Grand Knight’s Message: It seems that almost every year begins with expressions of hope for a “ better” year. Your council desires to make every year a good year. We Knights try, always, to care for our brothers and their families, help the needy and be participants in parish affairs. Let us go forth, again in 2009, in this same charitable spirit.
Special Olympics Collection and Party for the Special Olympians. Following our council business meeting 12/18 we went downstairs to the Manor dining room where a party had been set up for us to share hot dogs and snacks with the Special Olympians. Altogether, about eleven SP’s were present. We had collected a total of $3380 which we voted to round up to $3400 and a check for that amount was presented to the Special Olympians. Again, to all of the Knights who participated in the collection, thank you for acting in the true spirit of our fraternity!
Insurance- Congratulations are in order for Brother Richard Scrak, who has been appointed a KofC Field Agent. Here is an introductory message from Rick:---- Saving Money vs. Spending Money -- These are certainly difficult times, and everyone is very aware of the turmoil that surrounds us: credit issues, housing issues, banking issues. For the average consumer, and the average member of the Knights of Columbus, the question is obvious: Where do I turn? We’d like to suggest a conversation with your professionally trained KofC insurance agent about ways to protect yourself and your family. While some might say, “ I can’t think about spending money right now,” the goal is not spending money, but saving money. Saving money through permanent life insurance with guaranteed cash values, and/or saving money through a retirement plan with guaranteed interest rates are excellent ways to prepare for your retirement. Both products can offer you a guaranteed income for life. Contact your agent, Rick Scrak (610) 390-5638 today.

More on the Roundtable: All OLPH knights are invited to a “Pastor’s Round Table” meeting Mon. Jan. 12 to discuss a service program for OLPH. Refreshments at 6:30 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM.
Knight-of-the- Month Awards- we got a little behind in making these awards because it wasn’t possible to have members present in the appropriate month. For October the-Knight- of the- Month award went to Bro. Rick Scrak. For November, Bro. Steve Gorbos won the award, and the December honor went to Bro. Len Verrastro. Your GK notes that for each of these Knights, the award was for outstanding achievement.
Attendance Award Brother John McManus name was drawn for the attendance award but John was not present. Come to the December Council meeting and have a chance to win $90. Francis Achando won the 50/50 drawing.
Big Birthday – While we don’t normally report birthdays, it was duly noted that Francis Achando had recorded his 90th. Congratulations, Francis. Tonight you were twice a winner.
Knight Rider – Several knights are ready to pick up a brother knight to attend a meeting or other council event. If you’re unable or hesitant to drive at night, call Rick Scrak at 610-390-5638 or e-mail Rick at scrakman@msn.com to arrange a ride.

Families In Need Over the past several years our council has made it a practice to make donations to pastors during the Christmas season to distribute to the most needy in their respective parishes. Continuing that practice, $500 each was given to Notre Same, St. Anne’s and OLPH For needy family requests, contact Steve Gorbos, Ed Ortelli, Jim. Transue or Philip Comito. ($250 max. per request).
