Grand Knight’s Message:
The Council had a great time at Council 313 Night at the Iron Pigs game on Friday, July 31st. This was an opportunity that came up at the last minute when another group canceled. Fifty brother knights and their families and friends attended the game together at a price of only nine dollars per person (and two dollars of that came back as a food/beverage discount). We even had the good fortune of seeing Pedro Martinez pitch in his rehab assignment. Now that we know what a successful family event this is for our Council, we’ll be sure to make this a regular event. Speaking of family events, I hope to see you all at our upcoming annual picnic. See details elsewhere in the newsletter. On Thursday July 30 Fourth Degree members of our Council had the honor of participating along with other Assemblies in the ordination mass for our new Bishop John O. Barres. It was a beautiful ceremony and a great thrill for all of us. If any of you have not yet had the opportunity to attain the Fourth Degree in our Order, and would like to do so, the next Fourth Degree exemplification will take place October 17th. Please contact me at 610-954-0347 for further information. In the meantime let’s keep our new bishop in our prayers. Fraternally yours, John F Spirk Jr. Grand Knight
Monthly Meetings: Beginning last month we changed the format of our monthly meetings somewhat by inviting a guest speaker to talk to us about topics of interest starting at 7:30 PM and continuing for 15-20 minutes or so to be followed immediately thereafter by our regular monthly business meeting. There really is no good reason the business meeting portion should take more than an hour. After all Sunday Mass is far more important than our business meeting, and it manages to get everything done in an hour. It is our goal to have a guest speaker at every meeting if feasible. We welcome your suggestions as to who you would like to have as a guest speaker. Please forward them to our Lecturer Len Verrastro at 610-691-5698.
Guest Speaker: Our guest speaker for our August 20th meeting will be Brother Bob LaFrankie who will make a presentation on the topics of school vouchers and pro-life.
ANNUAL COUNCIL PICNIC: We will have the Council Picnic on August 15th this year. The picnic will be from 11:30 to 5:00PM (food at noon) at Louise Moore Park Pavilion #2. Brother Knights, children, grandchildren and widows of our brother knights are invited. Enjoy good food, games and relaxation with our council members. We would like to see you there. For questions or more information, please call Bro. Ed Ortelli at 610-317-6349.
