GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE
This past month featured our two events with the largest attendance of the year: our annual communion breakfast and our second annual night at the Iron Pigs. The breakfast followed the 9am mass at OLPH where 14 Sir Knights in regalia served as honor guard. Then approximately 80 of us enjoyed breakfast at the Palace Restaurant followed by interesting and thought-provoking remarks from Deacon George Kelly. Many thanks to: our own Bishop Thomas J. Welsh Assembly 0931 for the honor guard (including several who came all the way from St. Joseph the Worker), to Deacon George, and to Bro. Len Verrastro who chaired the event. At the ballgame well over 200 of us enjoyed a pleasant spring evening, a thrilling postgame fireworks display, and an entertaining game, although not very suspenseful, as the Iron Pigs gave up 5 runs in the first, and it was kind of all downhill from there (except for the Pigs homerun that earned everyone in attendance a coupon for a free Arby’s). The highlight for all of us was Bro. Joey Robb throwing out the first pitch, a strike right smack in the middle of the catcher’s mitt. Thanks to Bros. Kevin Collins and Mark Sewell for coordinating this very successful night.
First Degree
Our next first degree exemplification will be June 17, 2010, at 7:30PM. Candidates arrive at 7PM. If you know of a candidate, call Bro. Al Fiore at 610-866-0034. We have two candidates scheduled already. The Knights of Columbus worldwide membership recently passed the 1.8 million mark. Tell a Catholic gentleman friend how much more good he can do for his church and his fellow man as part of this team. Congratulations to our new Brother Dan Leddy who just took his first degree and joined our council. (In fact he took his 2nd and 3rd degrees too – all 3 degrees in the same week.) Congratulations also to Brother Mike Toohey who took his third degree as well.
Graduation season
At our communion breakfast we presented a monetary awards and certificates to two sons of our brother knights who are graduating this month from Bethlehem Catholic High School: Joseph Connell, son of Brother James, and Lawrence Hanig Jr., son of Brother Lawrence Sr. Joseph is headed to Moravian and Lawrence is headed to Pitt. Congratulations and good luck!
At the four high school graduations in our area we also provide a monetary scholarship award to a deserving graduating senior, and this year’s recipients are: Bethlehem Catholic High School – Zachary Roger; Notre Dame High school – Joseph Owens Jr.; Liberty High School – Patricia Leeson; and Freedom High School – Stefanie Herstick.

Home Association
Home Association president Jim Hogg has a new phone number: contact him at 610-442-7779 with any questions about the Home Association, or for information about lottery tickets. Elections for the Home Association Board of Directors will be held following our June 17 council meeting. Any Council 313 member in good standing is also automatically a member of the Home Association, and eligible for election. If interested call Bro. Jim Hogg.
NOTICE OF COUNCIL ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Election of council officers for the next fraternal year will be held at our June 17th meeting.
WEBSITE
Don’t forget our Council Website at www.kofc313.org. Upcoming events, contact information, helpful links, past and present newsletters, history, etc. You name it, it’s there. INCLUDING DIRECTIONS TO MONOCACY MANOR WHERE WE HOLD OUR MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETINGS.
Attendance Award The name of Bro. Joseph Morrison was drawn but Bro. Joseph was not present. The award advances to $95 next month. We draw the name of one of our 300+ brothers at each monthly meeting. If the brother is present he wins the dollar amount set for that meeting. If the brother is not present the amount increases by $5 for the next meeting. We have not had a winner in many meetings, so you have a shot at winning $95 if you come to the June 17 meeting. And if the brother whose name is drawn is not present at the June meeting, the prize will be $100 in July. We don’t go any higher than $100, so in July we will draw until we have a winner!!!! (if we don’t get a winner in June). So if you have not been to a meeting in awhile, now is a good time to start coming again. The meetings do not last more than an hour or so, you get to hear about and participate in and help decide what your Council is doing, you get food and fellowship after the meeting, and you can win money! Every month we also have a 50/50 drawing, and last month the 50/50 was won by Deacon Joe Buragino.
Prayer Remembrance
Please remember in your prayers our sick or distressed: The family of Bro. Carl Albarelli (past Grand Knight and good friend to his community who passed away recently), Tom Yencho Sr. Mike Molnar and David Spence.
